Why Study in the Cyprus?

 

  • Thousands of tourists as well as students from all over the world make Cyprus their destination every year, because of its natural beauty, its unique climate, and its hospitable people.
  • Cyprus is the island where people from all over the world find it easy to engage in a variety of activities.   • There are many fields of study that the students may choose for applying in the colleges in Cyprus. But Cyprus is well known for the study of Hotel/ Hospitality and Tourism Management Programs. Most of the colleges in Cyprus offers the diploma and under graduate programs in Hospitality management. And another thing is that, at the present situation, the permit of working (called paid practical training) is only given to the students of hotel and hospitality fields. So, life will be harder for those who intend to come here for the study of other subjects.
  • In Cyprus, there are three semesters in a year in the colleges. Which are:
  • Fall Semester (Oct -Jan)
  • Spring Semester (Feb -May)
  • Summer Semester (June -July)
  • Most of the colleges offer all the courses in fall and spring semester but only limited courses in the summer semester. Most of the international students enter Cyprus in Fall Semester (October).

Cyprus is the third largest island in the Mediterranean, situated 60km south of Turkey and 300km north of Egypt.  Method to Get Admission in Cyprus Universities

Every applicants who are intending to study in Cyprus must have completed a secondary level education or the equivalent of twelve years of schooling to get admission in the universities of Cyprus for undergraduate level or Bachelors level. Similarly the students must have to complete the undergraduate level education or Bachelors level Education to get admission for the post graduate level.

Application forms and other information about admission requirements for the universities or colleges of Cyprus can be obtained from the Office of Admissions of respective college or university.

 

Process to obtain Cyprus Student Visa for international students

Nationals of any country coming to Cyprus for studies must receive student’s permit through the Migration Officer,  prior to arrival. Applications should be submitted by the directors of the schools.

The visa process time for Cyprus may be up to 1 month. Therefore, students are requested to apply 2-3 months prior to the date of enrollment for study.

Application to
In person to the Consulate (or Consular section at Embassy or High Commission).

Application requirements:

  1. Passport with at least 1 year validity
  2. Photocopy of Passport
  3. One completed application form.
  4. 4 Passport sized photographs
  5. Proof of sufficient funds to cover duration of stay.
  6. Attested original academic certificates
  7. Certificate of Good conduct from police department in Applicant’s home country or country of residence issued not before 6 months
  8. Financial documents to show; students can meet all thecosts of living and fees while studying in Cyprus
  9. Fee (payable by cash or postal order only, subject to rate of exchange). For students, a letter from the applicant’s place of education is required.

 

Scholarships and Financial aid for International Students in Cyprus

The objective of the Financial Aid Program at universities/colleges of Cyprus is to provide financial assistance to students who need aid in order to begin or complete their studies in Cyprus.

Need Grants are awarded to students and are based mainly on substantial financial need, regardless of academic performance. The amount of the grant provided depends upon the student’s need for assistance, but grants usually amount to less than one third of the tuition and fees of the semester. Students interested in this type of grant must complete the “Financial Aid Application Form” and submit it to the respective department of universities/colleges.

It must be noted, however, that the funds for Financial Aid are provided by universities/colleges and are limited. Students and their families are expected to finance their education and Financial Aid should be considered only as supplemental assistance.

Living Cost for International Students in Cyprus

Off-Campus Accommodation
The private apartments are generally situated in quiet neighbourhoods just off the universities/colleges. The buildings mostly have one and two bedroom apartments designed to provide privacy and independence to students. Each apartment has its own living and dining area, kitchen and bathroom, which are fully furnished with single beds, desks, book shelves, chest of drawers, wardrobes, dining table & chairs. The kitchen is equipped with a cooker, oven and a refrigerator. All apartments have controlled heating and air conditioning units.
Cost of living in off campus living for 12 months generally ranges from $ 3,000 to $ 5,000.

Private Accommodation
If you do not want to live in the universities/colleges housing units you can apply to the Office of Student Affairs for listings of houses located in nearby areas. Such housing can only be arranged when you will already be in Cyprus. The cost of a furnished apartment can range from $400 to &500 per month. You will need to sign a 12-month contract and in addition to the monthly rent there will be added charges for water, electricity and telephone expenses.

Furnishing
The Office of Student Affairs can assist and direct students who need to purchase or rent furniture for their new house.

Climate
