Education Systems in Japan

  • As of 2005, more than 2.8 million students were enrolled in 726 universities.
  • At the top of the higher education structure, these Institutions provide four-year training leading to a bachelor’s degree, and some offer six-year programs leading to a professional degree.
  • There are two types of public four-year colleges: the ninety-six national universities (including the Open University of Japan) and the thirty-nine local public universities, founded by prefectures and municipalities. The 372 remaining four-year colleges in 1991 were private.

The economy of Japan is the third largest in the world after the United States and the People’s Republic of China and is the world’s second largest developed economy. According to the International Monetary Fund, the country’s per capita GDP (PPP) was at $34,362 or the 24th highest in 2011.

Japan is the world’s 2nd largest automobile manufacturing country, has the largest electronics goods industry, and is often ranked among the world’s most innovative countries leading several measures of global patent filings. As of 2010, Japan possesses 13.7% of the world’s private financial assets (the 2nd largest in the world) at an estimated $14.6 trillion. As of 2011, 68 of the Fortune 500 companies are based in Japan.

Climate :

Japan is a country surrounded by oceans and consists of four major islands (Hokkaido, Honshu, Shikoku, and Kyushu) and many small islands. The climate varies widely from one region to region. Most parts of the country has four distinct seasons. Spring months are March, April, and May. Summer months are June, July, and August. Autumn months are September, October, and November. Winter months are December, January, and February.
